Simon Kearns - Virtual Assassin

Simon Kearns - Virtual Assassin

By Hayley Thorpe

Simon Kearns' debut novel Virtual Assassin is an interesting yet slightly complex read. At times it can also be quite confusing.

The majority of the novel takes place inside the head of Lee Coller, head designer for anything@all.com. It follows his thoughts over two weeks.

Lee cares a lot about the world and has many political views which he shares with friend and colleague Jatinder, as well as research temp Rosa, who he falls for after a work night out.

But does he care a little too much? After Lee and co find out a VIP will be visiting anything@all.com, the rumours start and Tony Blair seems to be the favourite. But have they guessed correctly?

On hearing the information, Lee decides he must make a stand for all of Britain. He decides he will kill the Prime Minister. His plans are constantly on his mind and they overtake his subconscious.

Can Lee really lose all he has worked for, a job he enjoys and takes pride in, an amazing girl who would do anything to protect him and, most of all, his freedom?

Although this was a good and very intense read, it is also very confusing. You also have Rosa's and Jatinder's thoughts, as well as a man from Baghdad who shares Lee's ideas of making a stand against Blair.

Despite this if you're into politics and often think that you'd like to take a stand for the sake of mankind, this book is definitely for you.
